Field Service Engineer / Technician

The Field Service Technician or Engineer is responsible for performing sub-assembly preparations, qualification, installation, preventative maintenance and servicing of SQI platforms under ISO 13485 environment. Tasks include incoming inspection and pre-qualification of biomedical laboratory and computer equipment, installation and servicing of various platform components at customer sites. The successful candidate will also assist in drafting and revision of various platform operation documents (e.g., production and service records, SOPs, forms, technical reports).

Job Description
  • Install, qualify (IQ/OQ/PQ) and perform preventative maintenance of the SQI platforms at various customer locations and support internal systems
  • Provide customers with troubleshooting and basic applications information via phone or on-site consultation and be available (share on call duties) to respond to emergency situations with minimal notification
  • Work closely with customers and internal departments (platform, assay, sales) to provide the highest level of customer support and satisfaction
  • Proven customer service and ability to handle customer complaints and concerns and gain satisfaction
  • Ensure timely completion of service and other work order records for the Device History Records (DHR) per ISO 13485
  • Initiate non-conformance and deviation reports by accurately describing and accessing the situation
  • Ensure that all service equipment and tooling are available and maintained; including laptop computer, tools and spare parts
  • Participate in quality and customer complaint investigations
  • Assist in the implementation of new equipment and participate in process improvement initiatives
  • Participate in internal and external audits
  • Comply with the company’s Quality Management System, corporate policies, regulatory and health and safety requirements
  • Other related duties as assigned
  • This role is primarily based in Toronto, ON (or minimally requires 6 months training in Toronto) and requires North America and international travel. Travel may be up to 50% of time


  • Diploma or certification in Engineering or Technical Discipline from an accredited college or university (or equivalent knowledge).
  • Minimum 2 years as a Field Service Technician / Engineer or equivalent experience, in automation and robotics, with strong technical aptitude (mechanical, electrical and software).
  • Proven technical competency in computer information technology (IT).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Valid driver's license and travel documents.
  • Work flexible hours.

Other Required Skills:

  • Previous experience with Hamilton and/or BioTek Liquid Handling systems is a major asset.
